I have lots of favorites movies. I say this only because it’s a favorite movie because it’s a sport I love. I’m a huge baseball fan. There are movies I like as much as this, but I sort of single this movie out because I’m a baseball nut, and that’s ‘Field of Dreams.’

I was lucky to get one good adaptation. Field of Dreams the Musical is lurking in the wings. Hope it will provide my daughters with a ton of money someday.

Field of Dreams is the only movie – and I saw it in the theater – on an afternoon when I was on location somewhere, and there were like 12 people in the theater. I was just so devastated; I couldn’t get out of my seat. And I sat and watched it a second time.

The one constant through all the years has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It’s been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt, and erased again. But baseball has marked the time. This field, this game, is a part of our past. It reminds us of all that once was good, and what could be again.

All your dreams can come true if you have the courage to pursue them.

Man, I did love this game. I’d have played for food money… I used to love traveling on the trains from town to town. The hotels… brass spittoons in the lobbies, brass beds in the rooms. It was the crowd, rising to their feet when the ball was hit deep. Shoot, I’d play for nothing!

Baseball has marked the time. This field, this game: it’s a part of our past, Ray. It reminds of us of all that once was good and it could be again. Oh… people will come Ray. People will most definitely come.

Most writers are unhappy with film adaptations of their work, and rightly so. ‘Field of Dreams,’ however, caught the spirit and essence of ‘Shoeless Joe’ while making the necessary changes to make the work more visual.
