When Taylor Swift was first beginning to really take off, a couple of guys I knew in her band called and offered me a job on her tour playing acoustic guitar and singing background vocals, and they thought I would be a really good fit for it.
When I write music, I know a lot of artists like Taylor Swift or Ed Sheeran tend to write from personal experience. I write from personal experience, of course, but I don’t limit myself to that.
But I love to write music. What I would love to do is give some of the songs I write to someone like Taylor Swift because I feel like she could sing them.
I’m proud of my Korean heritage, but I want people to know I’m American. It’s not important to be the Korean Taylor Swift.
We came up with all these crazy ideas that Taylor Swift could be the biggest artist in the world – and it came true – and that we could have five labels and become the biggest independent record company in the world – and it came true.

Sometimes you want something really serious that makes you feel emotional and makes you think, and sometimes you do just want a pop song. What I love about Taylor Swift is that she offers both.
I remember I took a music course in junior year of high school, and some girl brought in ‘Teardrops On My Guitar,’ and she was like, ‘Isn’t this song great?’ And everyone was like, ‘Who’s Taylor Swift?’ And now, every time I listen to Taylor Swift, I remember that moment.
A platform is the base from which something big happens. In our case, we’re an entertainment platform in the sense that there are people signing up like MTV, Burberry, folks like Taylor Swift and Justin Bieber. And why? Because it’s their channel to control their entertainment to their fans.
Be kind to each other. You never know who’s going to become the CEO of what. You never know who is going to become Taylor Swift. You never know.
Rihanna is always on my playlist. I think she pumps you up and gets the day going. I also love – and I know this doesn’t sound like a workout album – the Lumineers, lately, and Taylor Swift.
