I don’t listen to the radio, so I don’t really know what’s going on in current pop culture. I know about the obvious things, like Taylor Swift and Justin Bieber and Ed Sheeran and Adele, because I hear them. They’re everywhere.
The great thing about albums is it gives you a lot of choices, and we can all say that the album business is dead, but watch Taylor Swift. I don’t think it’s dead. I just think we’ve got to hit on the energies that make people want to collect albums.
I wouldn’t necessarily say she is a country artist. I mean, obviously Taylor Swift started in country, but she morphed into somewhat of a cultural icon, so, who am I to judge what she is?
Just look at the transformation Taylor Swift made from being pop country to pop pop. There are very specific things she cut out and very specific things she adopted.
I think Taylor Swift, in the days when she was kind of doing more country style, definitely was a big inspiration for me.
Most of the time in the 21st century, we dominate our surroundings: We tweak the thermostat, and the temperature falls one degree. We push a button, and Taylor Swift sings for us. I’m listening to a lot of Katy Perry, Taylor Swift, and Rihanna. A lot of pop female artists. I have to say I’m pretty well-versed in the pop female category.

I think it says wonders about people that can write an entire album, and put out an entire album of great songs. I mean, the Brad Paisley’s, Alan Jackson especially, even Taylor Swift – those people can really pen great stuff.
